On the evening of November 9th, 2020, the men of WA Alpha held a lengthy election to determine their next executive team.
The 2021 executive board is as follows:
President: Colin Anderson
Vice President of Programming: Reece Wiyrick
Vice President of Finance: Brian Boutillier
Vice President of Recruitment: Brian Patrick
Vice President of Communication: David Harvey
Vice President of Membership Development: Ryan McClelland
Vice President of Scholarship: Grady Glover
Vice President of SigEp Learning Community: Leonel Serna
Chaplain: Jeb Sheldon
The night of elections was lengthy and insightful with many candidates running for positions. Each candidate voiced their visions for their position and the chapter at large.
This year’s elections also took a format that has yet to be seen in the chapter’s history: elections via Zoom.
Traditionally, the chapter gathers in a WSU lecture hall and candidates pitch their speeches face to face with their brothers. Covid-19 safety precautions deemed this impossible, however it did not stop WA Alpha from achieving an immaculate turnout.
After a Zoom meeting that lasted over four hours, WA Alpha had elected its next nine executive board members.
All elected board members are optimistic about their positions and what visions they see for the chapter. They seek to both grow the chapter internally and to help WA Alpha remain as an organization that benefits the communities surrounding it.
“This executive team is filled with guys that have a diverse perspective that will benefit our chapter greatly,” said President-elect Colin Anderson.
Each member of the group has had leadership experience at WSU and experience contributing to the chapter, much of it being taylored to their position. These experiences have included Brian Patrick as the Balanced Man Scholarship chair and President of the Society for Human Resource Management club, Colin Anderson as risk management chair and IFC senate, David Harvey serving as Vice President of Communications on the 2020 executive board, Ryan McClelland serving as the chapter’s sound mind chair, and more.
The 2021 executive board is also tasked with a challenge that remains relatively new to fraternal life at large: operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. The team will face unique challenges with this, however each member sees this as an opportunity to improvise.
“While we will remain vigilant in these turbulent times, we look forward to the possibility of things getting back to normal and our fraternal experience returning to the traditional ways that we have experienced in the past,” said Chaplain-elect Jeb Sheldon.
In the coming weeks, the elected board will undergo meetings with chapter mentorship and their position’s predecessors in order to facilitate a successful transition of duties. For the time being, the board members await their term, confident about what they can bring to WA Alpha that will take the chapter to new heights.
The future looks bright for WA Alpha.
