Back-to-back ‘MoonBall’ champions

Categories: Officers and Volunteers

By Andrew Baertlein

For the second consecutive year, WA Alpha won the Greek-wide ‘MoonBall’ philanthropy basketball tournament Sunday evening.

The annual event is put on by the women of Gamma Phi Beta and hosted on Phi Kappa Theta’s home court.

The SigEp Raiders roster – Travis Staffenhagen, Blake Gurney, Cass Riggan, Andrew Poulton, Devon La Pierre, Travis Rucker, Skyler Cannon – swept a clean 4-0 record winning the championship in overtime.

“It’s a great event and one of my favorite every year,” Staffenhagen said. “When Devon made the game-winning bucket in overtime, everyone went crazy. I’m glad we showed up to support the philanthropy again this year.”

This marks the second Greek philanthropy ‘win’ for SigEp this semester.

MoonBall benefits Girls on the Run, an organization focused on well-being of young women. WA Alpha plans to participate once again in 2020.

An important message for those in our community. We hope the best for everyone in these times, and encourage those affected to lean on each their and the resources available. The Washington State University Interfraternity Council is extremely saddened to learn of the death of a member of our fraternity community. We offer condolences to his family and friends.

While the investigation into the circumstances has just begun, the IFC is instituting an interim suspension of all social events for the remainder of the semester and implores all chapters to complete their new member education activities no later than November 15th, 2019.

While we begin to move forward, we remind the community that a crucial part of being a member of a fraternal organization is being present and caring for one another. Please know that the Cougar family supports you, and if you need access to resources please do not hesitate to reach out.

This is the only statement the IFC Council will be making at this time.

@SigEpWSU was here. We have so much to do, I can't explain it fast enough. But they did it anyway, thank you!Moving heavy wood & furniture, raking leaves, moving things inside for winter, sorting supplies in barn, emergency support for a broken water pipe in barn & burning wood.

Grand President Tom Jelke: "We must act virtuously — doing what is right, even when it is unpopular. We must love each other, and as brothers, take care of each other like family. We must be diligent in preventing others from putting themselves or someone else in harm’s way."
