On the evening of September 29th, 2021, WA Alpha held the final competitions for their annual Queen of Hearts philanthropy, marking the end of a week of fundraising for Meals on Wheels in Pullman.
The week leading up to these final competitions began with each of the contestants introducing themselves on SigEp social media and describing why they want to compete in a philanthropy raising money for Meals on Wheels.
This year had a total of 11 contestants, a high number compared to our previous Queen of Hearts competitions.
After introducing themselves, contestants were able to raise money for Meals on Wheels by advertising on their personal medias and selling Queen of Hearts tee shirts that were designed by our own members.
At the end of this week, contestants and SigEp members raised just over $3,000 for Meals on Wheels in Pullman.
The portion of the competition that finalized the philanthropy took the form of a relay race at the SigEp chapter house. Contestants were timed as they made a freethrow on the basketball court, a 5 foot putt in the house, and parallel parked a truck in the back parking lot. A watermelon eating contest was also held as a grand finale.
After all dollar amounts and competition times were counted, Katelyn Hart of Kappa Alpha Theta was crowned 2021 SigEp Queen of Hearts.
Overall, this years Queen of Hearts was both fun for all contestants and members of our Greek community, and also beneficial for those who are reliant on the Meals of Wheels foundation. This years competition set the bar high, and SigEp looks forward to attempting to top this year next year.
